Hoi An Day 3

Tuesday 2 October  2019

Up before 6.30, breakfast then Glenda and Patrice in a taxi to “cooking school” by 7.30am.  I tidied up a bit, experimented with re-organising the suitcases (we now have a bit more stuff) then took a walk to the beach.  I think it was high tide because the beach has little room between the big sandbags (pic 1 - erosion is working hard here) and the sea.  The shade of the trees was really nice though (pic 2).

I got an open air “shuttle” from there back into town, sharing it with a couple from Manchester.  Although I had asked to go to our usual drop off place (museum) the driver had other ideas so I landed up several blocks away.  The place is pretty compact but the buildings etc are so similar that one street is difficult to tell from another.  The GPS on my phone and a three-block walk did the trick and I was back on the “straight and narrow”.  By this stage I had 2 hours to myself so apart from completing a small currency conversion task I had time to get a drink and sit watching the world go by in one of the restaurants you can see at the end of the bridge to the left of the picture below until Glenda and Patrice had finished their cooking school.

Last night this was covered in lantern boats
Cooking Class - Glenda

Had a great morning at the Red Bridge Cooking class which involved a tour of the markets, followed by a boat trip up the river to the actual school, a welcome mocktail which was delicious, a tour of the herb gardens, demo by the head chef about how to prepare a number of recipes which we then had a go at as well, followed by lunch (the food that we had cooked) and return trip up the river to the old town again.  Met David and had a quick look around some of the shops while waiting for our glasses to be finished but the heat became a bit oppressive so opted to head back to the hotel for a break.  David stayed in for the evening but Patrice and I went to a light and dance show outlining the history of Hoi An which was extremely well done.  Unfortunately we were not allowed to take photos during the show but took a couple as we left.

  1. Hiya Glenda and David. I am really appreciating your blog comments and pics. It's my first time being involved in such technology so the benefits are wide ranging. Especially of course the contact in your absence David. Work for me is quite different when your not there. I don't want to trigger any guilt however seeing door closed tickles my abandonment issues a little. Sometimes I even find myself staring at the tea towel in the kitchen. Anyway glad you guys are having a full and pleasurable break I look forward to more blogs. Take care love to you both. Neil
